George Filis

George Filis is an Associate Professor in International Economics. He has ranked among the world's top 2% scientists across all scientific fields for five consecutive years since 2020. According to ScholarGPS, he also ranks among the world's top 0.45% scientists across all fields and the top 0.41% in Economics. He worked at universities in the United Kingdom for more than 15 years and returned to Greece in 2020 to join the University of Patras, where he worked until 2025. He also has extensive experience supervising master's dissertations and doctoral theses.

His extensive research has been published in internationally prestigious academic journals, including the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Financial Stability, International Journal of Forecasting, The Energy Journal, and Energy Economics. He has secured significant research funding from domestic sources, including the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation and the Bank of Greece, as well as through European Commission programmes.

Since 2024, he has been one of the editors of the academic journal The Energy Journal. He also evaluates proposals for European research-funding bodies, including the United Kingdom's ESRC, F.R.S.–FNRS, and Italy's ResearchItaly.
